(Editor’s Note: This things to do in New York City post was written by my 10 year old daughter.  One of the joys of traveling with a homeschooler is that you get to “make them” write posts and call it “school”.  I’m sure that she would enjoy constructive feedback on the post)

Recently my dad and I went to New York City for my birthday. I already talked about 4 of the New York City mistakes my dad made, but today I’ll tell you about some of the awesome things to do in New York City that we did.

First things to do in New York City: Rockefeller Center

The first of our things to do in New York City is that we went to the Rockefeller Center. One thing that makes it so cool, is that it shows you a little movie about the building on the top of the elevator. Inside there’s a really cool white sparkly chandelier. The last thing that makes the Rockefeller Center so cool is that it has a awesome view of New York. (PWaC: Unfortunately for us it was rainy so the view wasn’t as good as it could have been)

Second thing to do in Manhattan: Pizza Tour

After that we went to a pizza tour. Pizza is the greatest food of all time. But if you don’t agree, instead of telling you about how awesome pizza is, I guess I’ll tell you about our pizza tour.  A pizza tour is where you walk to a bunch of pizza shops and learn about pizza culture, and eat pizza. We got to eat FIVE slices total. It was so much fun! All of the walking was worth it.  Here’s a picture of me listening to our pizza tour guide tell us about pizza

Third thing to do in NYC: Statue of Liberty

Third we went to the Statue of Liberty. A few things that make the Statue of Liberty so cool is that it used to be a beautiful shade of copper but a lot of bad weather turned it green. Also the Statue of Liberty was a generous gift from France.  The Statue of Liberty is located on Ellis Island, so it’s surrounded by water!  Here’s a picture of our family mascot Mario and I with the Statue of Liberty.  It’s kind of dark – maybe my Dad should take photography lessons!

You can also go inside the Statue of Liberty, but we just took a cruise around it.  It was really rainy so I’m glad our boat had a roof! A bonus was that we got to see more than just the Statue of Liberty when we were cruising around on the boat.  We saw lots of buildings and bridges too!

Fourth thing to do in New York City: Heckscher Playground in Central Park

Next we went to Central Park. Central Park has humongous rocks to climb on. It has a lot of big playgrounds but we mostly went to Heckscher Playground.

Heckscher Playground has two playgrounds, one for big kids and one for little kids. There’s also an area with swings in it, and another area with gigantic rock that gives you a great view of Heckscher Playground. I also made a friend named Maxine – she was visiting with her family from Wisconsin. Outside of Heckscher Playground there are a lot of elegant horse carriages.

Fifth thing to do in New York City: Empire State Building

Finally we went to the Empire State Building. The Empire State Building is so tall that it makes feel like a little ant surrounded by millions of ant colonies. The Empire State Building also has a breathtaking view of New York. It also has a clear elevator top so you can see all of the many many floors.
