amex-everyday-cardI read on Doctor of Credit the other day that the bonus for the Amex EveryDay card has been increased from 10,000 all the way up to 25,000 points!!  I have written about the Amex EveryDay card before.  It’s the “basic” card for American Express and comes in 2 varieties: Amex EveryDay and Amex EveryDay Preferred.

  • Amex EveryDay.  Offers 2x spend on groceries (up to the first $6,000), and if you make 20 transactions in a month, you get a 20% bonus.  No annual fee, and the usual signup bonus is 10,000 Membership Rewards
  • Amex EveryDay Preferred.  Offers 3x spend on groceries (again, up to the first $6,000), and if you make 30 transactions in a month, you get a 50% bonus.  There is an annual fee of $95, waived the first year, and the usual signup bonus is 15,000 Membership Rewards

How to get the Amex EveryDay 25,000 point bonus

To get the Amex EveryDay 25,000 point bonus, you can go to the American Express page

https://www.americanexpress.com/us/credit-cards/amex-everyday (this offer does not pay me or anyone else as far as I know)

You’ll need to be in incognito mode to do it.  If you don’t see it, try different browsers.  I was able to get the offer pretty consistently, but I definitely read some reports that some people were having trouble

I saw reports of people that were logged in to their Amex account NOT getting the increased bonus, so don’t log in until after your application

If I just signed up for the EveryDay card, can I get the increased bonus?

If you have recently signed up for the Amex EveryDay card, and only got the “regular” 10,000 Membership Rewards bonus, you might have luck calling or chatting in with American Express to see if they will either match the bonus or give you bonus points.

American Express is reportedly a little more stingy with matching signup bonuses than some other banks, but I saw reports of people receiving 5K or 10K bonuses for asking.  Can’t hurt to try asking!

Can I get this increased bonus if I already have the Amex EveryDay Preferred card?

My first question was whether you could still get the bonus for the Amex EveryDay card if you already have the Amex EveryDay Preferred card. Remember, according to the current credit card signup rules and best practices, with American Express, you can only get one signup bonus per personal card

The good news is that the Amex EveryDay and Amex EveryDay Preferred cards are DIFFERENT cards, so you can still get the bonus on the Amex EveryDay card if you have the Amex EveryDay Preferred card.

Note that you are only allowed 4 active credit cards with American Express, so if you already have 4, you may need to cancel one before being approved. Authorized user cards and charge cards do NOT count towards the 4 card limit.

My take

I’m definitely signing up Carolyn for one – she currently has the Amex EveryDay Preferred and I’ll want to cancel / downgrade that to the Amex EveryDay card to avoid paying the $95 annual fee when it’s due.

In Chrome Incognito this morning, I was only seeing the 15,000 Point offer (still higher than normal!) but when I opened up Internet Explorer, I was able to get the Amex EveryDay 25,000 point offer on the first try.

The Amex EveryDay card is a great card to have to keep your Membership Rewards open if/when you have a Platinum or other premium Amex card that you want to cancel to avoid paying an annual fee.  If you don’t have an Amex card that gives Membership Rewards, they’ll expire.

Good luck out there!
