Beginning in June 2017, Cathay Pacific will turn its Hong Kong-London Gatwick route into a daily service. The prominent Asian airline currently operates an A350-900 on the route four times per week. Cathay initially launched the Gatwick service in September of this year after announcing it near the end of 2015. You can watch the A350 landing on the inaugural flight.

As Cathay is nearly doubling the number of weekly flights to Gatwick, the route has undoubtedly been successful. Gatwick is both smaller and further from London than Heathrow airport, but it is easily accessible by rail.

In addition to its numerous daily departures to both London Gatwick and London Heathrow, Cathay Pacific operates a Hong Kong-Manchester service. Flights on this route will be increasing by one per week, bringing the total to five.

The increase in service will expand upon Cathay’s already impressive 43 weekly nonstop flights between Hong Kong and the UK.

Cathay Pacific is renowned for its opulent first class product. Its business class offers solid service as well.

The airline operates both 2-cabin and 3-cabin Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A350-900 aircraft on its UK routes, so both premium products are available.

Awards options on the HKG-UK routes?

Alaska MileagePlan miles are a great option for award travel on Cathay Pacific’s Hong Kong-UK routes. Flights start at 30,000 miles in coach, 35,000 miles in premium economy, 42,500 in business, and 70,000 miles in first one-way, plus taxes and fees. You must call Alaska Airlines at (800) 252-7522 to book Cathay awards because availability unfortunately doesn’t show up on alaskair.com. I tend to use the British Airways search tool to find availability.
