Southwest Companion Pass
The Southwest Companion Pass is one of the best things in travel. Holders of the Southwest Companion Pass can fly their designated companion for FREE (not including the recently increased $5.60 TSA fee). The best part for us travel hackers is that this is true on AWARD flights as well as paid flights. For some reason, Southwest makes it hard to find the page to check your Southwest Companion Pass status, so this post will help you find it.

One of the easiest ways to get the Southwest Companion Pass is through credit card signups. Links / Offers to the Chase Southwest 50,000 mile credit cards seem to come and go – here is one that I know that is active through the end of 2014

If you’re able to get 2 of the 50,000 mile credit cards and meet the minimum spending requirements, that will leave you only 6,000 Rapid Rewards points short, which you can meet by regular spending, manufactured spending, or reselling

Southwest Companion Pass without credit cards
Credit card signup bonuses are by far the EASIEST way to get the Southwest Companion Pass. But if you’re not able to signup for the credit cards (whether due to credit issues or having had the card previously, or no 50,000 point links available), there are other ways.
I mentioned how I was able to get 22,000 points by reselling using a 19x bonus at the Southwest Shopping Portal – but reselling is not for everyone. Another option if you have a lot of Chase Ultimate Rewards is transferring points.

Checking your Southwest Companion Pass status
I earned the Companion Pass back in May of 2014, but while I was trying to reach the 110,000 point goal, it was really hard to find the official page to check my Southwest Companion Pass status.

You do need to be logged in to access the Southwest Companion Pass status page. If you try to check the status page while not being logged in, Southwest’s website SHOULD bring up the login page and then redirect you to the Companion Pass status page. If it doesn’t for whatever reason, just log in and then try the link again.
If you’re on your My Account page, you can also choose the “My Rapid Rewards” page and the Companion Pass details are on the left hand side
That seems a lot easier to find than I am remembering from earlier in the year, so it’s possible that Southwest’s recent web redesign has made things easier to find!
