usairwayslogoI picked up the Barclay US Airways card a few months ago as part of my most recent round of credit card applications (aka churn).  The offer I signed up for was only for 40,000 miles with 10,000 miles at each anniversary.

Naturally, as soon as I signed up for it, the offer increased – it’s now 50,000 miles upon signup and first purchase, and still the 10,000 miles on anniversary, though there have been reports that this offer is only for US Airways elite members and non-elites that sign up have been instantly rejected.

I sent a Secure Message to Barclays, asking for them to match the 50,000 offer, and they agreed (which was nice!).  The extra 10,000 miles have already been deposited into my account.

Check your Welcome packet

We got the US Airways welcome packet in the mail a few days ago (not the actual card – this was a welcome packet from US Airways).  These are kind of “junk mail” in my mind, but generally I do leaf through them – as sometimes there are useful things (like 1000 bonus IHG points for watching a video!)

And what did I find there?

us-airways-club-day-pass

A complimentary (domestic) US Airways Club or Admirals Club pass!  It admits you and 1 guest.

There isn’t really any fine print on it, other than that it expires 12 months from the date your account was opened.  It does also say that if you cancel or downgrade your card, you will not be allowed into the lounge.  If you’re already an elite US Airways (or, I assume, American) traveler with access to the lounge already, you can take 2 guests.

Has this always been a perk of the US Airways card?  I don’t remember getting one of these when I first got the card (as part of my first ever credit card churn).  It appears to perhaps only be tied to the “elite” offer that has the 10,000 anniversary miles

Here’s the landing page for the card with the anniversary miles – you can see that it does mention the US Airways Club or Admirals Club day pass included.  Contrast that to the “regular” offer, which has no such mention

"Regular" card - no mention of a day pass

“Regular” card – no mention of a day pass

So if you signed up for the card with the anniversary miles, don’t forget to check your welcome package!
