Choice Privileges is a rather underrated hotel program in my opinion.  There are some definite flaws with the program (mostly the fact that you can only book award stays between 30-90 days before the stay, depending on a few factors), but you can get some definite bargains (especially in Europe and Scandinavia specifically).  The other problem is that it’s harder to get points.  There is a credit card, but the signup bonus isn’t great and the bonus for everyday spend is not good either.  You used to be able to transfer Chase -> Amtrak -> Choice at a one to THREE ratio!choice-hotels-logo

But…. you can no longer do that, for two reasons (Chase no longer transfer to Amtrak and the new Amtrak credit card doesn’t give you status to unlock transfers to Choice)

Choice has been revamping their website (which has come with a few flaws), and as part of that transition, they recently updated some aspects of their Choice Privileges program

Choice Privileges Flex Rewards

Choice Privileges Flex Rewards is a system where awards on certain days of the week are discounted.  Some hotel discount weekday (Sun-Thurs) and others discount weekend (Fri-Sat)

Here’s an example of Flex Rewards in action at the Comfort Suites on Riverboat Row in Newport, KentuckyInvalid request error occurred. (just across the river from Cincinnati)

Note that not all Choice properties are participating in Flex Rewards at this time so you’ll have to check each property you’re thinking about staying at.

Starwood has offered this for awhile, but only for Category 1 and Category 2 hotels, where you can get a 1000 point discount if you stay on a Friday or Saturday night (2,000 or 3,000 points for a Cat 1 or Cat 2, respectively)

There are a couple of other changes to Choice Privileges that are not nearly as interesting.  You can find the full details here.
