Since launching its re-branded ‘World of Hyatt’ loyalty program, I haven’t really paid much attention to Hyatt hotels. I got my ‘Discoverist’ card in the mail and promptly tossed it in my cluttered desk drawer. At used to think a Diamond Challenge might be doable someday, depending on where and when we’d be traveling. Now Hyatt “Globalist” is pretty much unattainable, at least for me. I don’t see as much value in the new program. Plus, the branding is awful. Who came up with that boring logo?!

Hyatt double points promo
Yesterday I received an email from Hyatt with the subject “Double Points for Being You”. With so banal a tagline, I almost round-filed it before even opening it. But I figured there was a chance it contained a useful promotion. Which it did.
The promotion terms state that you will earn double points on all stays from April 1 through June 30, starting with your second stay. Points earned from the promotion are considered bonus points and will not count as base points toward Hyatt status. While this does nothing for you if you are interested in quickly earning Hyatt status, at least you can earn some extra points. Marriott and Starwood currently have their own double points promotion that runs through April 15 (registration is now closed).
Other earning potential
Another opportunity for those with Discoverist status or above is the ability to earn a free night after staying at 5 different Hyatt brands between March 1 and the end of 2017. I’d completely forgotten about this opportunity. You can also earn an additional free night if you stay 30 qualifying nights or earn 50,000 base points in a calendar year. This will conveniently earn you Explorist status as well. Both free nights are (unfortunately) only for Category 1-4 hotels, a la the credit card anniversary nights.
