Delta Airlines announced last week that it plans to start new nonstop service between New York-JFK and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The new service will run daily starting December 21, 2017, subject to U.S. Department of Transportation approval. Below is Delta’s proposed schedule:

American Airlines currently offers daily 777 service between JFK and GIG. Delta’s proposed schedule puts its arrival into GIG the same time as American’s flight.
Delta will operate the new route using a Boeing 767-300 aircraft with a total of 210 seats. The aircraft offers 35 Delta One full flat-bed seats with direct aisle access for every passenger, 32 Delta Comfort+ seats and 143 seats in the Main Cabin. Elite customers and passengers flying in Delta One will have access to the 24,000 square-foot flagship Delta Sky Club in JFK’s Terminal 4, and a recently opened GOL VIP lounge located in Terminal 2 of Rio de Janeiro-GIG airport.
Delta passengers traveling from JFK to GIG will be able have seamless connection at GIG and reach 23 destinations in Brazil thanks to Delta’s alliance partners GOL.
Competition is always a good thing. With Delta’s new service to GIG, perhaps we will see cheaper fares to Rio.
