Singapore Airlines announced last week that they will be making some changes to the award booking on their own flight starting March 23. Since the announcement, I have been poking around Singapore website daily looking at award seats for next February. And I noticed that they are giving away 500 free miles if you sign up their KrisFlyer frequent flyer program by April 14, 2017.

All you have to do is enter the promo code JOINKF2017 when you join KrisFlyer program online.  While 500 free miles will not get you anywhere, you can easily add more miles by transferring points from all four flexible award programs:

  • Amex Membership Rewards (1:1 ratio)
  • Chase Ultimate Rewards (1:1 ratio)
  • Citi ThankYou points (1:1 ratio)
  • Starwood (each 20,000 points becomes 25,000 KrisFlyer miles, so technically 1:1.25 ratio)

From my experience, transfer time typically takes about 24 hours, but sometimes could take 48 hours if the transfer is initiated over the weekend. One thing worth pointing out is that Singapore KrisFlyer miles expire 36 months from the date they were earned, regardless of any activities!

Singapore Airlines are a member of Star Alliance. There are  4 sweet spots on Singapore Airlines’ amazing award chart . Last summer I redeemed miles for last-minute United transcontinental flight between SFO and Newark NJ in flatbed BusinessFirst class for just 20,000 KrisFlyer miles each way. I also booked SFO to Honolulu for 30,000 miles in business class as back up plan for last Thanksgiving and later cancelled for just a small fee. Since KrisFlyer miles can be so easily obtained, I can see myself booking my family’s trips through Singapore for flights in continental U.S., Hawaii, Mexico or even the Caribbean.

I have been to Asia in First Class with Cathay Pacific and recently with Japan Airline from SFO to Haneda. I have also flown in Business Class with both airlines plus ANA and Eva Air. I have yet to fly Singapore Airlines and I have been eyeing its premium cabins. The news last week made me look for award seats for next February. After looking everyday for the past week, I am booked in Singapore First Class from Hong Kong to San Francisco for 70,125 miles (after 15% discount) plus about $80 fees and taxes! I have something to look forward to during the next 11 months! 😉

You never know when you might need more Singapore miles. So join KrisFlyer program online now and get the free 500 miles by using promo code JOINKF2017.
