It seems like an almost weekly occurrence – one of the “Big 3” office supply stores (Staples, Office Depot and Office Max) are running a weekly ad special involving rebates for buying prepaid Visa / Mastercard cards.

It feels almost like we’re playing Clue.  Whodunit?

This week it’s Colonel Mustard, in the library, with the lead pipe.  Errrr, I mean it’s Staples, with the Mastercard, and a $20 gift card. 🙂  Last time, it was OfficeMax, with the Visa, and the instant rebate.

But the principle is the same.  $300 of Mastercards gets you a $20 Staples gift card via easy rebate.

Option 1 – 2 $200 cards

Best option (if you can find them) is 2 $200 cards.  There’s a $6.95 activation fee on both, so it’s a money maker of $6.10, plus if you’re paying with the Chase Ink, that’s 2000 Chase points

Option 2 – 1 $200 and 1 $100 cards

Best option (if you can find them) is 2 $200 cards.  There’s a $6.95 activation fee on both, so it’s a slight money maker, plus if you’re paying with the Chase Ink, that’s 1500 Chase points

Option 3 – 3 $100 cards

If your store is out of $200 cards (probably likely), you can get the $100 ones. There’s a $5.95 activation fee on both, so it’s still a slight money maker, plus if you’re paying with the Chase Ink, that’s 1500 Chase points

My Staples actually had a bunch of $200 cards left, so I went ahead and bought 3, which came to $621.85.  I figured, especially since I’m still trying to meet the spending on my Ink card, it was worth the extra money to get 3000 Chase points plus meet the spending.

Limit 1 EasyRebate per household.

What about you?  Have you or are you going to take advantage of this free money?
