Breaking news this morning as reports out of the Wall Street Journal seem to indicate that a Germanwings plane (an Airbus A320) enroute from Barcelona to Dusseldorf has crashed in the French Alps. It is feared that the 148 passengers and crew are dead – French President Hollande said in a statement that “The conditions of the accident suggest there are no survivors”.
If confirmed, this is of course a terrible tragedy. Germanwings is a subsidiary of Lufthansa, and Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr made the following statement on Twitter
“We do not yet know what has happened to flight 4U 9525. My deepest sympathy goes to the families and friends of our passengers and crew 1/2
