ihg-share-forever-2016-promotion-logoBesides signing up for credit cards, hotel promotions can be one of the best and easiest ways to get a bunch of points rather cheaply.  And of the different hotel promotions, IHG tends to have some of the more lucrative ones!  For example, last fall in the IHG Accelerate promotion I earned 45,160 IHG points for 2 nights stay ($185 total, though some of that I had to spend anyways as I needed the nights).  More recently, the IHG Priceless Surprises promotion netted us just under 100,000 points, but this time all it took was filling out some postcards and envelopes (but it took awhile for the points to post!).

Other promotions in the past have made it easy to get a free night at ANY hotel with only a few stays.  While I sometimes question the value of free nights, there’s no doubting that if you have a specific redemption in mind, staying 2 nights at a Holiday Inn Express for a $1000 night in Bora Bora can be great value!

IHG Share Forever promotion

Most of the IHG promotions give people a series of individualized “tasks” to complete, and completing all of them will give you a larger amount of bonus points.  Last year IHG announced a new promotion called IHG Share Forever which was similar, but also allowed you to “share” points or even Platinum status with other people.

Since you could also share points with yourself, that was my plan, but my IHG Share Forever offers were so week I didn’t bother completing the offer.

Here is my IHG Share Forever 2016 promotion details

I might make my first stay (if I have something available before May 31st).  I don’t think this makes sense for a mattress run.  Let’s say I get a lower end hotel for $100.  I will get 2K to 3K points from the stay itself plus 7,000 points from the promotion (and 1,000 points to “share”).  So I am paying about 1 cent per point for those points, which is significantly higher than I’d like to pay.

Past that, I don’t think I will participate in the IHG Share Forever 2016 promo.

I logged in to check Carolyn’s offer and…. it’s exactly the same 🙂

Miles to Memories is reporting that many people in the same elite tier are getting the same offers.  Carolyn and I are both Platinum members, so that makes sense for us.

I reached out to a contact at IHG and she said that wasn’t necessarily the case, but in any case, it seems clear that there are far fewer individualized offers than in previous IHG promotion offers.

What was your IHG Share Forever 2016 offer?  Are you planning on completing it?
