As part of my trip to Peru last year, we flew on LAN business class from Washington DC (IAD) to Lima Peru (LIM).  For more information on how we booked the trip with miles, see the post Scoring 2 lie flat seats to Peru.  This post will be focusing on a LAN business class review from IAD to LIM.

LAN Business Class review IAD-LIM – on the ground in IAD

We had quite the adventure getting ourselves to Washington Dulles in the first place.  We were scheduled to fly from Cleveland to Washington at 2pm – arriving at Washington Dulles (IAD) at around 5pm.  Instead, our flight was delayed by nearly 5 hours, meaning we didn’t get to Dulles until about 9:30pm.  At least that left us plenty of time to visit the United Club Cleveland and the Airspace Lounge CLE!

Lounge access and boarding process when flying LAN Business Class

Because we got to Dulles for our LAN business class IAD-LIM flight, the gate agents were already at the gate and most of the passengers were already at the boarding area at Gate A23

We talked to the gate agent and asked about lounge access.  She didn’t seem to know anything about it and vaguely mentioned the British Airways lounge, which I believe is the correct lounge.  But she said that it was very far away and there wasn’t a ton of time.  She suggested going to the Air France / KLM lounge which is nearby.

When we went to the Air France lounge in IAD, the agent told us that we did not have access as LAN business class passengers, which makes sense since they are in different airline alliances.  We were able to briefly get in to the Air France lounge with our Priority Pass memberships, but since it closed at 10pm, we couldn’t stay long.

LAN Business Class seat Washington to Lima

LAN Business Class IAD-LIM does offer fully lie flat seats.  I was in seat 2A

I was pretty tired by the time we boarded and got ready to take off, since after a slight delay it was nearly midnight, but of course I “had to” have dinner first.

The seat was comfortable and did lie fully flat.  The entertainment options were fairly standard – a wide variety of movies and TV shows.  I ended up watching the Time Traveler’s Wife, which I think I had seen before but I still enjoyed.

LAN Business Class IAD-LIM food and menu

As I mentioned earlier in the LAN Business Class review, immediately after boarding and takeoff, dinner is served.  Here is a shot of the menu

I went for the smoked salmon, which was quite tasty.

My wife had the vegetarian meal (SEE ALSO: How to order special LAN Airlines vegetarian meals)

With the dinner service, the staff passes out a card for breakfast.  You have a couple of options – full breakfast, express breakfast or no breakfast at all.  You mark your card so that you won’t get woken for breakfast if you don’t want to be.

Near the arrival into Lima, breakfast is served – I went with the full breakfast but it was dark in the cabin so I was not able to take any pictures of the breakfast on my LAN Business Class Washington to Lima flight.

Final thoughts on my LAN Business Class IAD-LIM review

I’ve written before on how to get lie flat seats to Peru and I think that LAN Business Class from the US to Peru (or most places in South America) is an incredible bargain using miles.

  • American Airlines – 30,000 miles
  • United Airlines – 35,000 miles
  • Alaska Airlines – 30,000 miles if you fly American, or 45,000 miles if you fly LAN
  • Avianca – 40,000 miles
