Choice Hotels (Econo Lodge, Rodeway Inn, Quality Inn, Cambria Suites, etc.) can be a interesting choice if you’re looking for a budget hotel.  While I do find that you need to be a bit more careful in reading reviews about individual hotels, you can find some definite bargains!  We stayed at 4 different Choice hotels during our recent Yellowstone trip, and when I did my ranking of the 8 hotels we stayed in, they came in at #1, #6, #7 and #8.

Booking “unlimited” Choice Hotel rewards stays

Choice Hotels is in the process of moving to a new website, and it seems that the transition is not going very well.  Their new website seems visually appealing, but for a long time, it seemed it was stuck in some sort of limbo world where much of the functionality wasn’t available on the new website and you’d always see links that said “Go to the old site”

A few months ago, I booked 5 different Choice hotel rewards stays for our Yellowstone trip

None of the points seemed to be deducted from my account when I made my bookings.  I wrote a post wondering if you could book “unlimited” Choice hotel rewards stays.

Now, it’s a “System Issue Correction”

These bookings were back in June, nearly 3 months ago, and in the meantime, I actually have emailed and called Choice 3 times trying to figure out what was happening with my points bonus, as even MONTHS later, there was no deduction from my account.

Yesterday, I was updating my miles and points balances with Award Wallet, my #1 ranked miles and points tool

and noticed that my balance had dropped by 56,000 points.  I logged into my Choice Hotel rewards account, and found

This was not unexpected, but it was frustrating that there was no communication about this – just the removal of 56,000 points!

Contacting Choice Hotel Rewards

I contacted Choice Hotel rewards about it, and received the answer that:

After reviewing your account, I noticed that for <your recent stays>, your points were not deducted from your account. Therefore, Our records deducted those points and this is why appears as system issue correction.

Pretty lame IMO.  I’m not saying that I am entitled to those points – on the contrary, that is why I tried to contact Choice Hotel Rewards.  All I was looking for was an explanation about what happened, and if it’s likely to happen again.  Plus, you can’t even see any mention of this on their website – you have to find the “old” site for it to show up!!

So, if you have made a Choice Hotel Rewards stay recently, I recommend looking at your account to see if your point balances are what you expect!  If they’re different, leave me a note in the comments!
