As part of the kerfluffle from US Bank removing the bonus award night on their Club Carlson credit card, US Bank awarded several free night certificates to anyone that was a cardholder.  We ended up with 3 somehow though the first one expired August 31st.  Since the stay had to be completed by August 31st and with the date upcoming, we decided to do a staycation and stay one night at the Radisson Cincinnati.  It’s across the river in Covington Kentucky and very visible as you cross the river on I-71/75.  In the 20 years that we have lived there, I’ve probably seen it hundreds of times and always wanted to try out the revolving restaurant at the top of the hotel

Looking for a revolving restaurant? Check out the Radisson Covington / Cincinnati which gives some great views of the Cincinnati Skyline

We had a bit of trouble trying to redeem the Club Carlson e certificate, but eventually got it all straightened away so we could visit the revolving restaurant at the Radisson Covington

Checking into the Radisson Cincinnati

We arrived about 5:30pm and checked in with no problem.  We bantered with the front desk lady and asked (as I always do) if there were breakfast vouchers available for Gold members.  She said that there weren’t, but she must have liked us, because she gave us some anyways :-).  We were hoping to have breakfast in the revolving restaurant but the revolving restaurant is actually only open for dinners (and closed on Mondays) – so the breakfast vouchers for the Radisson Covington are in their ground floor restaurant

Radisson Covington / Cincinnati room

Our room was on the 7th floor and was pretty basic.

All of the rooms are exterior but only the revolving restaurant actually revolves, so you’re dependent on room location for whether you have a view of the Cincinnati skyline or…. the Interstate 🙂 . We had a room that faced mostly northwest, so our view was pretty good

Not pictured was our view to the left, which was basically I-71/75 at rush hour :-).  Actually we were pleasantly surprised that the glass doors on the balconies blocked out the sound pretty well – even though the Radisson Cincinnati is pretty close to the Interstate, you couldn’t really hear the traffic sounds unless you opened the balcony door

Radisson Cincinnati revolving restaurant

We had an appointment in the evening, so we didn’t get back to sample the revolving restaurant until it was dark.  The views from the night skyline was still pretty good

The revolving restaurant does a complete revolution every hour.  The rotation is noticeable but not super noticeable.  When we were up there, we were just about the only ones up in the revolving restaurant, so it was no problem getting a table at the edge of the revolving restaurant up by the windows.  There are a variety of plaques on the edge denoting various Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky landmarks for you to see

The Radisson Cincinnati revolving restaurant is pretty expensive, at least for my frugal tastes.  You can see the full menu and details on the 18 Dining website.  We opted to just go up for dessert – a slice of cheesecake and / or fudge chocolate cake was $8 plus tax and tip.

Breakfast at the Radisson Cincinnati

The next morning, we went to use our Radisson Covington breakfast vouchers.  As I mentioned earlier, the revolving restaurant is only open for dinners (and Sunday brunch), so we went to the ground floor restaurant.

The breakfast at the Radisson Cincinnati was your basic breakfast – I wouldn’t say it would be worth paying for, but it was worth the $Free we paid for it

I’m glad we got a chance to stay at the Radisson Cincinnati and have dessert at the revolving restaurant up on the 18th floor.
