We already talked about the free money at Staples this week (12/7 – 12/13), but Miles to Memories reports that there is even MORE free money this week!

Solve the Mad Lib

Save _____ (amount) when you buy _______ (purchase amount) in _______ (type) Gift Cards at _______.  Refund will be given ___________

The second Mad Lib answers are:

1) $15

2) $300

3) American Express

4) Office Depot OR Office Max

5) instantly

In case you didn’t follow along, if you buy $300 in American Express gift cards this week at Office Depot / Office Max , you’ll get $15 off instantl.  Here’s this week’s weekly ad (it’s on page 12).

Maximizing the deal

The terms and conditions of the deal specifically EXCLUDE the variable load cards, so your best bet would be to buy 2 $200 cards, which each come with a fee of $6.95.  So the $15 off instantly should cover 2 of those fees, leaving you with a slight money maker.

Naturally if you have a Chase Ink or other card that gives 5x at office supply stores, that would be a good option.

Remember that American Express gift cards don’t have PINs and can’t be used to load Serve or Bluebird, so if you’re manufacturing spending, you have to take into account the additional costs (in time and money) to turn it into something that can.

Or alternatively, you could always SPEND the money 😀

Amex Sync offers

Doctor of Credit also reports that there is an active Amex Sync offer for $10 off of a $50 purchase at Office Depot.   AND you can split the tender for purchases across multiple cards.

(READ MORE: Making money with Amex Sync Offers)

So if you have 6 Amex cards with the offer, you could buy a $200 and $100 Amex card (with a $2 filler to get the purchase price over $300).  Then spend $50 on each of your Amex cards, which should end up with a net cost of $240.

Or if you don’t have that many Amex cards with the Sync offer, you could just put the balance on your Chase Ink card.

I was initially excited about this offer due to the fact that the $15 off was taken instantly (which generally makes the deal more lucrative), but given the additional hassle of liquidating American Express cards, I think I will only do this once or twice (to use up my Amex Sync offers)
