southwestlogoI’ve mentioned many times before that I love Southwest, especially for family travel.  Since I earned the companion pass earlier this year, all of my recent flights have been on Southwest.  Even though my flight last weekend was delayed by 4 hours, we did end up with a pair of $100 vouchers for the delay, so that worked out.  Plus, since it was just the 2 of us, we just counted those 4 hours as an extra date night!!! 🙂

Earning the Companion Pass

The rules for earning the companion pass are fairly simple: Earn 110,000 Southwest Rapid Rewards points in one calendar year, and you’ve earned the Companion Pass.  Once you have the Companion Pass, then for the rest of that year AND the entire next year, any time you fly, your designated companion gets to fly “free” (just have to pay the recently increased TSA fees).

Although you can earn the 110,000 points in many different ways (BigHabitat earned 2 of them recently just by reselling!), probably the easiest way is through credit card signups.  Southwest has historically offered 50,000 point offers on both their business and personal cards.  After meeting the signup bonuses, that only requires 6,000 more points.

Where have all the 50,000 point offers gone?

Unfortunately, it seems like all of the public 50,000 point Southwest offers are gone.  I did a bit of searching and could not find any active public links.  Maybe that’s why you don’t seem to hear as much about Southwest now, since all of the affiliate links have been taken away…

Personally, I would suspect that the public 50,000 offer would come back at some point, but it’s also possible that Chase and Southwest are trying a different marketing strategy.

The only place that you can still get a 50,000 point offer is through a “refer a friend” offer.  Chase has let some existing cardholders refer a friend

If you go through my link, it takes you to an offer for the Premier (Personal) card, that offers 50k in points after $2000 in spend in the first 3 months.  As you can see, that would also give me 5,000 points as well.  As always, I appreciate the support!

Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Premier Credit Card – 50,000 point offer

I’ve seen a bit of traffic coming to the blog recently from people that are looking for the 50K offer, so I hope that is able to help someone looking for the Companion Pass
