I saw another one last night over on Maps and Menus that I thought was interesting enough to share. It’s called The Top things to do in all 50 states

Now while I’d certainly quibble with some of the items that they picked on the list (I mean the US Air Force Museum is cool and all (I’ve been there), but I don’t know that I’d classify that as the BEST thing to do in all of Ohio. Though this list is at least better than the list the guy that was trying to find the fastest time to visit all 50 states used – Spring Grove Cemetery as the best thing in all of Ohio? C’mon man!
The methodology that this particular map used is as good as any I suppose – it’s the top rated thing on Trip Advisor for that particular state. Sure enough, the top rated thing to do in Ohio according to Tripadvisor users is indeed the Air Force Museum

So out of the Top 50 things to do, I have been to 16 of them on this list
- AZ – Grand Canyon South Rim
- CA – Alcatraz Island (well, I’ve SEEN Alcatraz from Fisherman’s Wharf – does that count? 😀 )
- WY – Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone
Right near these Fountain Paint Pots was a gentleman wandering through the grass, despite the large signs saying to stay on the boardwalk.
- CO – Garden of the Gods
- NM – White Sands National Monument (my son and I briefly visited during our trip to the highest point in Texas – we did dune sledding which was fun…. for about 10 minutes : -D )
- SD – Mount Rushmore
- MO – Sight and Sounds theater in Branson (SEE ALSO: Top 5 things to do for a family in Branson)
- MS – Vicksburg National Military Park
- OH – US Air Force Museum
- PA – Gettysburg National Military Park
- IN – Indianapolis Children’s Museum
- NY – Central Park – (SEE ALSO: 4 mistakes my Dad made in New York City and a 10 year old’s Top 10 things to do in New York)

Really, Alcatraz? It has to be Yosemite. Or if you go a different direction, Disneyland.
I’ve been to 17 different places on the list.
Been to 11 but disagree with some of the choices. I don’t think seeing Alcatraz is the same as being there. It’s not like Mt. Rushmore where you don’t go up on the actual faces. I’d compare it to driving by Fenway Park and counting that as seeing it. Picking something other than a national park in a state that has some gorgeous ones, like Alcatraz in CA or Harry Potter in FL boggles the mind. Even in Louisiana, as much as I like the WWII museum, I’d go with the French Quarter over the museum. It’s a lousy list in my opinion.
I’ve been to 42 of the 50 listed state “top things” sites. Now that I’ve seen the list, I’ll probably cross the other eight off within a year or two. I’ve visited each state multiple times, so I eventually I experience most features and events worth doing. My home state of California apparently features Alcatraz Island which I’ve visited multiple times to take visiting guests, but I would certainly rank many other attractions above it, both natural and man-made. I’m particularly partial to California’s exceptional natural attractions including Yosemite NP, Sequoia NP, Mt. Shasta, Big Sur, Lake Tahoe, Lassen NP, John Muir Trail/Pacific Crest Trail, Death Valley NP, Valley of the Giants (redwoods), and more.
Well I have to say that Chrystal Bridges in Arkansas has one of, if not the best, collection of American Art but hardly the top thing to do in this state. The Ozarks are beautiful, Buffalo National River is spectacular, Eureka Springs is great for a weekend and on and on.
Well, My opinion is The Ozarks are stunning, Buffalo National River is outstanding, Eureka Springs is incredible for a weekend and on and on as Renee said.
