awardwalletOne of the challenges about accruing points and miles is keeping track of all your balances.  Recently a friend of mine asked me for some points advice and when I asked him if he had any points or miles already he said

” I have accounts with some airlines but don’t know how many points.”

This is a fairly common thing that I hear from people.  Unfortunately, if you don’t know how many points you have (or even if you have points at all!), then they’re worthless to you.  Most miles and points currencies do expire after a period of time, and the hotels and airlines LOVE when you let points expire.

BUT NOT ON MY WATCH!!

There are a few sites out there that let you track your point balances, but one of the most popular and the one that I use is called Award Wallet.  Award Wallet lets you put in your point balances with a variety of airlines, hotels and banks, and track them all on one screen.  Here is (part of) what mine looks likeawardwalletI’ve blacked out my account numbers and balances, but you should still get the idea.  Award Wallet does track changes in your balance, as well as expiration dates of your miles (free version only tracks expiration on 3 balances).

You can also see that you can track balances for multiple people, which is useful for spouses and other family members.

Another note is that you can see that I have a few accounts with a 0 balance.  Some sites make you sign up for the frequent flyer program in order to even do searches, so I’ve put them in to Award Wallet so that I can keep track of my account number in case I have need of it.

Award Wallet also keeps track of your status with the different programs.  Status is not something that I really go after, but I do have status at a few places (mostly hotel chains), and it’s nice to be able to keep track of that.

AwardWalletPlus

Award Wallet is free, but they do have a “Plus” version.  The main advantages of the Plus are

  • Track expiration dates for all your accounts (Free version only tracks 3)
  • Exporting your accounts to PDF or Excel
  • Historical charts for your point balances (though personally I have not been able to figure out where the link for this is located – if you know, leave me a comment!
  • Adding additional things to your account (like if you have a free night voucher, or a companion pass, etc.)

The cost of Award Wallet Plus used to be $10 for 6 months, but when I looked at it recently, it appeared to be one of those “name your own price” deals.

awardwalletplusupgradeNow, because I’m a) cheap and b) a rascal, I tried to put in $0 as a test, but I got an error message saying that it should not be lower than $5.  So there is that.
