Travel Hacking March Mayhem first round COMPLETE! Find out which 8 tools advanced to the next round

Last week, in honor of the NCAA Tournament, I started a 16 “team” tournament so that we could figure out the best travel tool out there.  I took 16 different tools, seeded them from #1-16, and entered them into a tournament.bracket

The voters have spoken, and here are the 8 winners:

  • #1 Award Wallet defeated #16 Boingo Wifi, 83% – 17%
  • #2 Autoslash defeated #15 Osmand, 72% to 28%
  • #3 Google Flights / ITA Matrix defeated #14 Cashback Monitor, 87% – 13%
  • #4 Airline Route Mapper LOST to #13 The Flight Deal, 74% to 26%
  • #5 Award Mapper LOST to #12 Expert Flyer, 53% to 47%
  • #6 Rome2Rio defated #11 Check My Trip, 63% to 37%
  • #7 Hotel Hustle LOST to #10 Flight Aware, 52% to 48% (by ONE vote!)
  • #8 Flyermiler LOST to #9 Seatguru, 77% to 23%

That leaves us the following bracket

While it was all “chalk” at the top of the bracket, with the top 3 seeds winning by huge margins, there were a few upsets among the lower seeds, and of COURSE we had a 5-12 upset! 🙂  Of the 8 contests, we had 4 favorites win and 4 underdogs win, though the 5-12 and 7-10 matchups were extremely close, with #10 Flight Aware beating out #7 Hotel Hustle by ONE vote!  (We’ll call that a last second buzzer beater!).  Here is our schedule for this upcoming week, where we will do the next 4 matchups and get down to the final 4 teams.

  • Thursday, March 24th – #12 Expert Flyer vs. #13 The Flight Deal
  • Friday, March 25th – #3 Google Flights / ITA Matrix vs. #6 Rome2Rio
  • Saturday, March 26th – #1 Award Wallet vs. #9 Seatguru
  • Sunday, March 27th – #2 Autoslash vs. #10 Flight Aware
