I saw a tweet about this from Maximizing Money – Western Union is running a promotion currently that will give you a $20 Amazon gift card if you are a new Western Union customer and send at least $50

You’ll also get a $20 gift card for each friend that you refer (up to 5). This is my referral link – if you sign up through this link, fill out your name and email address, and you’ll get a promotion code via email.

If you use that promotion code to send a Western Union transfer of over $50, we will both get a $20 Amazon gift card. Fees depend on how you pay and how the receiver gets the money. It looks like a $5 fee to send money with a credit card that goes to the receiver’s bank account – so it’s definitely a money maker.

IMPORTANT WORD OF WARNING: Reader Jason lets us know in the comments that many credit cards will classify a Western Union purchase as a cash advance, so you’ll want to be careful there.

The link to sign up is here – feel free to leave your own referral links in the comments.
