Part of the way to always have miles and points to use on travel is to get your miles and points from a variety of sources.  While most of my miles come from credit card signup bonuses, another potentially lucrative source of miles is making your online purchases through shopping portals

I wrote last week about 2 promotions offering 3500 bonus miles through the Southwest and American Airlines shopping portals, in ADDITION to the miles that you will get for just making the purchases.

Today we learn about 4000 miles through the UNITED Mileage Plus shopping portal

This United Mileage Plus shopping deal isn’t as good as some in the past, including one where I have gotten 19x or even 29x miles on my shopping purchases.

Here’s the skinny:

  • 500 bonus miles for qualifying purchases of at least $125
  • 1,750 bonus miles for qualifying purchases of at least $600
  • 4,000 bonus miles for qualifying purchases of $1,500 or more

The promotion runs through August 12th, and miles will be awarded 8-10 weeks after purchases.

There is also a sweepstakes, and you’ll get entries for each qualifying purchase through the United Mileage Plus shopping site.  You can also get entries for opting in to their email list, if that’s your thing.  If you’re going to sign up for an email newsletter, you should definitely sign up for the Points With a Crew newsletter, which gives you a once-daily email with the best news on how to travel free.

Looking through the stores, I noticed that Sears is at 6x and Staples is at 4x, which seem like they could be pretty good deals.  If you double dip through the Sears portal (by buying gift cards first), you could get upwards of 15-16x miles.
