If you want to get the most value out of your hard earned points and miles, you have probably heard the advice to spend them on travel. While that is sound advice, you should keep in mind that it’s only a good redemption if it gets you where you want when you want to be there.
If you want to expand your options, there are a number of points programs who run auction platforms including Delta Airlines, Starwood and Wyndham. Today, I want to go a little more in depth about the Hilton Honors auction site.
How It Works
The Hilton Honors auction site works a lot like ebay or other similar sites that allow you to make purchases through an auction. When you look at a listing, you’ll see information like the current bid, when the auction closes, and what the minimum bid increment is. You can search by location, ending soon, type of experience, date and more.
What is Available?
The experience categories include music, sports, and culture experiences. On top of those three categories, there are also a number of experiences that are exclusively for Hilton Honors American Express card holders.
One great example is this “Escape to the Crystal Clear Lagoon at Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort & Spa“.This package includes three nights in an overwater bungalow including daily buffet breakfast, a half-day guided clear kayak excursion with coktails, local snacks, and sliced fresh fruit, a romantic 4-course dinner on the beach, and a 50-minute sunset couples massage including champagne.
As of the time of writing, the current bid was 600,000 points which might seem high right off the bat. When you start to poke around a bit though, you’ll find that a premium room award at this property will run you 301,000 points per night which would be 903,000 just for the room alone not including breakfast. Add on the extras, and it could be a great value if you were already planning a romantic vacation to Moorea.
The Hilton Honors auction site can also be a great place to snag potentially hard to find sports events, concert tickets, and even Broadway shows. Currently, they have tickets for artists such as the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Demi Lovato, Beck, Rod Stewart and more. A number of the concert tickets are for purchase with points instead of auction.
While it might not be smart to spend all of your Hilton Honors points on experiences, it could really pay to check out the auctions. I would suggest that you consider checking the site periodically or double checking before you book anything too crazy.
