Singapore Airlines announced two weeks ago about huge changes to award pricing on its own flights, eliminating the 15% online booking discount and fuel charges while increasing award prices. The new changes will take effective March 23, 2017.

Singapore Airline routes from the U.S.

You have one week left to book Singapore Airlines award flights at 15% discount. The new March 23 award chart represents huge increases to the current award chart. Many Singapore Airlines sweet spot award redemptions, including those from the U.S., will become much more expensive and to some extend out of reach for even more people. Below are the routes operated by Singapore Airlines from the U.S, and the award prices currently vs. after March 23.

Houston to Singapore

  • First Class: 93,500 miles vs. 120,000 miles
  • Business Class: 72,250 miles vs. 92,000 miles
  • Economy Class: 31,875 miles vs. 40,000 miles

New York to Frankfurt, Germany

  • Suites Class: 57,375 miles vs. 76,000 miles

  • Business Class: 63,750 miles vs. 82,000 miles
  • Economy Class: 25,500 miles vs.33,000 miles

Singapore first class and business class awards are very popular and among the most difficult to get. Two weeks ago I watched the Hong Kong San Francisco route every day as the schedule opened. I watched the first class award seat for my most desired date disappeared right in front of my eyes!I Fortunately I was able to secure a seat for the day prior. So don’t second guess yourself if you want to grab one of these popular seats!

Singapore Krisflyer miles are easy to get

If you are not yet a member of Singapore’s Krisflyer program, you can get free 500 Krisflyer miles by signing up before April 14, 2017. You can easily add more miles by transferring points from all four flexible award programs.

  • Amex Membership Rewards (1:1 ratio)
  • Chase Ultimate Rewards (1:1 ratio)
  • Citi ThankYou points (1:1 ratio)
  • Starwood (each 20,000 points becomes 25,000 KrisFlyer miles, so technically 1:1.25 ratio)

From my experience, transfer time typically takes about 24 hours, but sometimes could take 48 hours if the transfer is initiated over the weekend. Some people reported that Chase and Starwood transfer could take up to 7 days. So plan accordingly if you need to transfer points to Singapore to book your flights.

Do you plan to book any Singapore Airline flights within the next week for the 15% discount?
