I understand that traveling by plane sometimes can bring out the worst in people, but it seems like there have been a slew of people reporting assaults (sexual and otherwise) while on an airplane. I don’t know if this is something that is more prevalent now? Or possibly people feel more comfortable reporting it? (Or both).  In any case, I’ve read several articles this week involving assaults (alleged and otherwise) on an airplane, and it just makes me wonder what is wrong with people!

2 men accused of sexual assault on an airplane

First – an article I read today detailing 2 very similar sexual assualts on airplanes.  In both cases a man was sitting near but not next to a woman before making inappropriate comments and touches (assaults).

Both men have been charged with  “abusive sexual contact aboard an aircraft”, which I didn’t even know was a thing!

Other airplane assaults

That’s not all I’ve seen though – Matthew from Live and Let’s Fly reports about a physical assault that happened in Row 1 of an airplane that was taxiing to its gate

Two flights attendants allegedly watched the scene unfold. Jimmy called to the FAs for assistance but the FAs refused to help. They looked at each other then said there was nothing they could do. When Bozo heard the call for help, he warned Jimmy that he would be waiting outside the jet bridge. Again, the FAs just shrugged

I’m not sure at what point it’s ever acceptable to tell someone you’ll be “waiting outside the jet bridge” for them….

And of course earlier this year Prabhu Ramamoorthy was convicted and faces life in prison for sexually assaulting a sleeping woman sitting next to him (while his wife was sitting on the other side to him no less!)

Just another reminder to be alert on airplanes and your surroundings!
