daily-getaways-2016-logoDaily Getaways is back for 2016!  In what seems to be an annually recurring spring thing, the US Travel association has announced Daily Getaways 2016.  While a few years ago this was also sponsored by American Express, and you could get a discount on the Daily Getaways deals by using your Amex card, there is no such association, sponsorship or discount this year.

While I do find most of these deals to be rather iffy, Daily Getaways 2016 can be a good opportunity to buy points on the cheap but I would only recommend doing that IF you have a specific recommendation in mind.

With that said, here are details on Daily Getaways 2016 Week 2.  Remember, all of these deals go live at 1pm EDT, and there are limits on most of them, and the really good deals will sell out quickly.

Daily Getaways 2016 – Week 2 offers

You can find the Complete list of the Daily Getaways here, but here is the Week 2 calendar

There aren’t any of the Week 2 Daily Getaways 2016 deals that I would consider screaming deals.

Daily Getaways 2016 Week 2: the maybes

There are only 2 deals that I might consider maybes – that’s today’s (Monday’s) deal for Wyndham points and the Expedia deal on Wednesday.

Monday: 15,000 Wyndham points for $150

Wyndham has an interesting award chart in that there essentially is NO award chart.  Back in June of 2015 , they made every hotel cost a fixed 15,000 points.  So the crappiest Days Inn or Super 8 costs as much as their fanciest hotel.

You’re buying 15,000 points with Monday’s deal, so essentially you’re buying enough to stay one night at any hotel.  There ARE definitely Wyndham hotels that run for upwards of $300 or $400, so in that regard this DailyGetaways deal is a “good deal”, but unless there’s a specific Wyndham hotel in a specific place that you want to stay at, it’s almost always going to be possible to get a stay at a comparable hotel for much cheaper than $150.

Wednesday: $1000 at Expedia for only $650

Wednesday’s deal can be a good one too, if you know that you’re using Expedia a lot to book non miles and points stays.  Personally, unless you already have a pattern of using Expedia very often, I wouldn’t speculatively buy this, since that’s a lot of money to tie up unless you know you’re going to have a use for it.  Still, there are probably some folks out there where this will make sense.

2016 DailyGetaways Week 2: the duds

If you’ve already got specific plans to stay at Universal Studios then go for Tuesday’s deal – otherwise that’s another pass.

I am not that familiar with Omni hotels, and I’m sure they’re nice, but…. like we talked about with Wyndham points, using miles and points I’d say it’s almost ALWAYS easier to get a night in a fancy hotel for significantly cheaper than $235.

And Friday’s deal on Caesar’s is another one that is not compelling at all – Vegas deals are always in the Daily Getaways, and Daily Getaways 2016 is no exception – those are always ways to get cheaper deals in Vegas.

Planning on taking advantage of any of the 2016 Daily Getaways?
