I have not forayed too often into the AirBnB world.  In theory AirBnB would be good for my family, since with an AirBnB we’d have access to a kitchen helping to keep food costs down as well as laundry and other amenities that you normal get in a house that you don’t get in a hotel

But in practice, it just has never made sense.  While there are opportunities for relatively cheap AirBnB stays for fewer people, every time I look for AirBnBs for our family of 8, it runs $150 or more per night.  I can generally get much better return with our stash of hotel points.  Perhaps if we were doing more long-term travel there would be a spot for AirBnB but I haven’t found it yet.

My first AirBnB stay in Greece

When my son and I went to Greece last month, I did find a pretty good deal on an AirBnB.  For about USD$120, we got a 1 bedroom apartment right in the main area of Athens with a view from the Acropolis from our balcony!

Here’s what it looked like with our family mascot Mario (before he was stolen 🙁 )

I paid with my Barclay Arrival Plus card so I was able to use miles to offset the cash cost AND I also linked my Delta account and got triple miles for my AirBnB stay.  Talk about a win-win (-win)

$40 off your first AirBnB stay

This is just a reminder that AirBnB offers a $40 credit for new users (off of your first stay of $75 or more).  If you click through my referral link, you will get $40 off your first visit

So if you can use the $40 off your next AirBnB stay, I hope it helps and if you use my link to sign up, I appreciate it!
