alaska-airlines-status-match-logoIf you travel a lot, elite status can provide a lot of benefits to help give you the comforts of home while you’re on the road.  I’ve written before about the benefits of the Hyatt Diamond Challenge, and even written a guide on how to status match at each of the different major hotel chains.  Today though I want to talk about an Alaska Airlines status match.

MVP Gold 75K status – what you get with an Alaska Airlines status match

Alaska Airlines MVP Gold 75K status is Alaska Airlines’ top status, and comes with a host of benefits, among which are:

  • Top priority for complimentary First Class upgrades on Alaska
  • Waived fees for changes and cancellations
  • 125% Elite Bonus Miles on Alaska and 12 partners
  • An opportunity to nominate someone to MVP status
  • Four Day Passes to our Board Room airport lounges Priority check-in and boarding on Alaska and American

One nice feature is that you can also get benefits when traveling on Alaska’s partners American Airlines and Delta Airlines

How to do an Alaska Airlines status match

To get an Alaska Airlines status match, simply email documentation of your top tier status with a competing airline to elite.flyer@alaskaair.com

Your Alaska Airlines status match gives you MVP Gold 75K status for the rest of the year.  If you do the Alaska Airlines status match after November, you get it for the rest of the year AND the entire year after that.

I should point out that according to Alaska Airlines, you can only do an Alaska Airlines status match once per lifetime, so you’ll want to do the Alaska Airlines status match when you’ve got a lot of travel upcoming, to get the most out of your MVP Gold 75K Alaska Airlines status.

An Alaska Airlines status match without flying a mile

But wait, what was all this about getting an Alaska Airlines status match without flying a mile?  The trick is using the Southwest Airlines companion pass

(SEE ALSO: What is the Southwest Companion Pass (and how to get it))

(SEE ALSO: Cheapest way to get the Southwest Companion Pass (without the Southwest credit card))

You CAN earn the Southwest Companion Pass by flying 100 segments on Southwest in a year, or by earning 110,000 Southwest points.  BUT, the much easier way is to sign up for 2 Southwest credit cards in a year.  Usually those cards will have 50,000 point signup bonuses (and I’ve seen it as high as 60,000), so it’s a super easy way to get the Southwest Companion Pass.

Once you have the Southwest Companion Pass, just email a screenshot to elite.flyer@alaskaair.com and boom! You should get an Alaska Airlines status match to MVP Gold 75K status.
