Recently, I applied for an American Express card and got a notice that my card had gone pending – I was not approved immediately but I was also not denied flat out.  My American Express application had gone into a “pending” status.amex-american-express-reconsideration-line-phone-number-logo

While there are plenty of reasons why you might not want to call the Amex reconsideration line (SEE: Not calling the reconsideration line works again!), if you do, here is a list of American Express reconsideration phone numbers and website for you to use.  Personally,  I tend to not call into the American Express reconsideration line until I receive an official notice one way or the other on my application.

Check your American Express application status without calling Amex reconsideration phone numbers

There is a way to check your American Express application status without having to call in to the Amex reconsideration line.  This is similar to Bank of America application status page, but unlike some other banks – for instance, there is no way to check Barclay application status or Chase application status.

You can check your Amex application status by going to this site.

The automated American Express reconsideration number will just give you your application status, and won’t really give you any options to talk to anyone if your application is in a pending status (which is probably the reason you are interested in the American Express reconsideration department after all, right?)

So if you would like to call in, you’ll need the American Express reconsideration phone number.  There are actually several different American Express reconsideration phone numbers that I was able to find.  These numbers tend to go in and out of service, which is why I am including many of them.  Hopefully one will work for you!

  • (800) 567-1083 – application status
  • (877) 399-3083 – new accounts department; application status – personal and business
  • (866) 314-0237 – application status; customer service
  • (800) 453-9719 – business cards reconsideration phone number
  • (800) 297-3276 – American Express membership rewards department (loosely related to the Amex reconsideration line)

Another good source can be the Twitter team at @AskAmex or @AmericanExpress – but keep in mind if your scenario is complicated, they’re likely to direct you to one of the American Express reconsideration phone numbers.  Another suggestion might be to go to the American Express website, and ask for reconsideration by sending them a secure message.
