It’s confirmed. American Express announced today that  Denver International Airport will be the next airport to get their luxurious, flagship lounge – the Centurion Lounge. It was just a few week’s ago when PWaC’s Cam Hadfield reported these additional lounges planned for Denver – Just What Denver International Needs – Two New Lounges.

Covering more than 14,000-square-feet, the Centurion Lounge in Denver will be the second-largest Centurion Lounge location to date. The lounge will be located in the Concourse C Mezzanine and accessible to all passengers traveling through DEN, regardless of airline or Concourse. The Centurion Lounge at DEN is estimated to open in 2019.

Why Denver?

According to Josh McKay, vice president and general manager, Global Benefits and Services with American Express, “We are thrilled to share our plans to bring one of our signature Centurion Lounges to the Denver International Airport, as Denver is one of the top airports our premium Card Members travel through. In just the past year we’ve seen a 36 percent increase in air travel through Denver among U.S. Premium Card Members booking through American Express Travel in this market alone.”

The Denver International airport is the fifth largest airport in the United States and welcomes more than 61 million passengers annually. DEN is also one of the fastest growing airports in the world. Over the last two years, passenger traffic has grown by more than 12 percent.

Denver International Airport’s Concourse C, where the lounge will be built, is home to Southwest, Alaska, Virgin, and Spirit Airlines. However, the three concourses, A, B, and C, are all connected. Travelers can move in between concourses airside after clearing security. Given a good amount of time, travelers from Concourse A or B should be able to access the lounge in Concourse C.

I am quite new to the whole Centurion Lounge experience. My home airport is Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and I could only hope for a Centurion Lounge to be built there soon. Meanwhile, during my last trip to the East Coast and back to the West Coast, I was able to use the Centurion Lounges in Philadelphia, New York-La Guardia, and Dallas-Fort Worth. I enjoyed the food selection very much. These Centurion Lounges kept us fed. One other unique thing that I remember, but didn’t get to take advantage of was the free massage at the Dallas-Fort Worth Centurion Lounge. It was by appointment only. I will keep that in mind and inquire about the amenities that each lounge provides for my future trips

How about you? Do you have a favorite Centurion Lounge? Any tips? Any special perk that you remember from those lounges?
