There are not very many avenues to pay utilities and other recurring bills with a credit card (and thus earn miles) for free.  And with recent changes to the banking landscape, there are not very many (if any) ways to earn miles by paying bills with a debit card.

I’ve written before about how I have used Plastiq to pay my mortgage and earn thousands of frequent flier miles.  But even that comes with a 2% fee and is only (somewhat?) offset by the AT&T Access and More credit card which earns 3x ThankYou points

Using RadPad to pay your rent for free

RadPad is a site that lets you pay your rent with a credit card.  Normally it charges a 3.49% fee (which makes it generally not worthwhile), but they are currently running a promotion through the end of 2016 that lets you pay your rent with NO service fee!

To take advantage of this promotion, here are the steps that you need to do

  1. Make sure you have the Android Pay app on your phone.
  2. Add a credit card from a participating bank to your Android Pay account.
  3. Open the RadPad App and select Pay My Rent
  4. Add your landlord’s name and where you’ll send your check
  5. Pick your charge date and select Android Pay Credit Card

Reports that I have seen indicate that they are pretty strict about the “rent” part, so I think it is not likely that you’ll be able to pay your mortgage, utilities or other bills through this promotion.
