Chase Refer a Friend is BACK!  This is a periodic offer that Chase does with various of its cards.  Currently it’s a refer a friend offer for the Chase Freedom card. I maintain a list of the active Chase refer a friend offers, and right now (as far as I can tell?), this is one of only two current active offers (Chase Sapphire Preferred is the other).  My personal referral link is here, and feel free to leave your own in the comments.

chase-freedom-refer-a-friendFor each person that you refer, you will get 5000 Ultimate Rewards. The newly signed up person will get 10,000 Ultimate Rewards points after spending $500 in the first 3 months.

I know that it says that you get $50 cash back for each friend, but the fine print does say that it’s actually 5000 Ultimate Rewards points (which is WAY better IMO!)

Checking to see if you’re eligible

I believe anyone that has a Chase Freedom card is eligible for this refer a friend offer.  You can check by going over to chasereferafriend.com to get your own personal link.

I put in my Ink, Southwest, IHG, United, Amtrak and Hyatt cards and only the Freedom card came back with a valid refer a friend offer.  Neither my wife or I have a Sapphire card so I couldn’t verify if there’s an active Chase Sapphire refer a friend offer or not.

Is now the right time to get a Chase Freedom card?

chase-refer-a-friend-freedom-logoIf you don’t have a Chase Freedom card, I might suggest waiting awhile to get one.  When there was a Chase Freedom refer a friend offer late last year, they offered twice this bonus for new users (20,000 Ultimate Rewards points instead of only 10,000).

One reason you might want to get one is if you’re looking to cancel a premium Chase card like the Sapphire Preferred or Chase Ink card and downgrade it to a Chase Freedom.  In that case, it can be a good idea to have the Freedom card first – that way you can just transfer the credit line over to a Freedom card (but still get the signup bonus for signing up for a Freedom card new)
