chapecoense-football-team-logoNews broke overnight that there has been a Colombia plane crash.  Lamia flight 2933 has crashed en route from La Paz Bolivia to Medellin Colorado, killing at least 75 people.  There were 72 passengers and 9 crew members onboard.  Reports coming out now say that there were 5 survivors, including defender Alan Ruschel and goalkeepers Jackson Follmann and Danilo.  As is customary with breaking news reports, there is some conflicting information regarding a 6th survivor who according to one report is at the hospital and according to another passed away at the hospital – it’s not 100% clear at this time if that is accurate.

The plane was carrying the Brazilian Chapecoense football (soccer) team.  The soccer club from the southern Brazilian city of Chapecó was flying to take part in the Copa America tournament against the Colombian team Atlético Nacional.  All tournament activities have been suspended at this time.

Sobering picture tweeted out of 3 players who did not take the flight in shock in the team’s locker room

As always my heart goes out to the survivors, the families and all those involved.
