Discover has announced the bonus categories for all four quarters ahead of time. They are generally better than Chase about giving some lead time when announcing categories, but it’s especially nice to have a whole year unveiled at once. Here are all four Discover 2019 cashback categories:

(Q1) January – March: Grocery stores

(Q2) April – June: Gas stations, Uber and Lyft

(Q3) July – September: Restaurants

(Q4) October – December: Amazon

As a reminder, the 5% categories are capped at a total of $1,500 in spending, which is a maximum of $75 of cash back at the 5% rate.

2019 Discover cashback categories: lots to look forward to

The 2019 Discover cashback categories are all solid. I would venture to guess than most people can take partial to full advantage of all of them. Our family can certainly max out the first quarter grocery category in 3 months. With all the Christmas shopping that happens towards Christmas, Amazon is a solid winner as well. Remember that the current last quarter 2018 category is also Amazon, as well as Wholesale Clubs!

Happy spending!
