Did you know if you have any airline elite status, you might be able to get elite status with another airline through status match? Besides JetBlue’s Mosaic status match and challenge that I shared yesterday, Delta Airlines is also offering a Skymiles Medallion status challenge currently. You can read the details of Delta status match challenge here.

Delta Status Match Challenge

Below are the criteria to qualify for the status match challenge:

  • You must not have received a status match or complimentary Medallion Status in the past three years.
  • You are currently not a Medallion Member.
  • You present both a valid, current elite credential and a statement showing earned elite status from another airline.

Which Delta Medallion Status you will be matched to will depend on your current elite level with other airlines. Unlike JetBlue which matches status only from domestic airlines, Delta’s offer extends to foreign airlines.

If you have status with airlines not listed above, you might still be eligible for this challenge. Just submit your information as you normally would and find out.  If you get matched to JetBlue Mosaic status because of Southwest Airlines’ Companion Pass, it is worth to see if you can status match to Delta, even though JetBlue and Southwest are both not in the list showed above.

Extend Medallion status through January 2019

If you register now and your status match challenge is approved, you will have temporary Medallion status for 3 months. You will enjoy the benefit of your new status for 3 months, including unlimited complementary upgrade, access to preferred seats, free baggage, etc.

If you complete the flight requirements within those three months, your Medallion status will be extended until January 31, 2019. The flight requirements can be satisfied either through Medallion Qualified MIles (MQMs) or Medallion Qualified Segments (MQSs) and are based on your matched Medallion level. The requirements are substantially lower than what are required normally (25,000 MQM for Silver, 50,000 MQM for Gold and 75,000 MQM for Platinum).

My experience with the Delta status match challenge

I recently received free AAdvantage Platinum status from American Airlines, and my college-bound daughter received free AAdvantage Gold status. I submitted a copy of the screenshot of her new AA gold status. About 10 days later she was matched to Silver Medallion, just in time for her journey to Alabama for orientation. Her newly-gained low level silver elite status save me $100 worth of luggage fees for two people. She and my husband were both upgraded to Comfort+ seats and received Sky Priority boarding. Their names were put on the first-class upgrade list, but got moved down to the bottom of the list as more elite members checked in for the flights.

So Delta status match is easy to do, and the flight requirements to extend the status is low. If you have any Delta flights coming up, might as well do this challenge. Enjoy your Medallion benefits but don’t expect first class upgrade as they are hard to get!

Will you be doing the Delta status match challenge?
