If you are a cardholder of American Airlines, you are eligible for “reduced award flights” for the next four months – yay! You can save anywhere from 1,000 points to 7,500 points depending on which credit card product you hold. My wife and I both hold the AAdvantage Aviator Red World Elite Mastercard as the sign-up bonuses were incredibly easy. One purchase + $95 annual fee = 60,000 points – score!

Even for my wife and I being in a Delta dominated airport (SLC), there is actually a decent amount of availability for award tickets.

American Airlines Reduced Award Flights

Many times, when airlines run discount awards, the availability is a joke. Whether it’s flying from small airports on a useless pattern, or the availability is very small, these tend to not be very good. However, this promotion is not terrible. Actually, its pretty great! It is running from December 2018 to March 2019, and the flexibility of 174 airports being included. You can check out all of the different airports here.

While the variety of airports is great, there are a few extra steps to save yourself some miles with this promo.

1. Find your card and mileage discount

2. Based on your discount, pick class and the award code.

3. Choose your destination – just make sure it’s available when you want to travel

4. Call Reservations at 800-882-8880 or visit a ticket office to book your award

It is great to see though that American is trying to give their cardholders value for their business. We have seen more and more over the years how airlines are devaluing their loyalty programs. It’s frustrating for many of us.

Are you planning on taking advantage of this promotion?
