In the midst of SPG/Marriott upheaval, I find myself looking at Hilton as one of the best options for continued loyalty as both a business and leisure traveler. Hilton offers the perfect balance between earning ability and elite recognition, and you can gain enormous benefit from their Hilton Ascend American Express card.

Hilton also generally delivers in the promotions department as well, and this July is no exception. You can use two promotions to get at least a 50x return on your spending for stays this month.

Hilton triple points offer

Hilton is currently running a promotion for cardholders of any of their four American Express co-branded credit cards where you’ll get triple points on any stay. You do need to register for this promotion, which you can do here. The triple points would count on

Assuming you have the Hilton Honors Ascend card and are therefore a Hilton Gold member, your return is at minimum 50 points per dollar on paid stays. Assuming Hilton points are worth 0.5 cents each, this is an easy 25% return. Diamond members would earn a bit more, but I really think Gold does plenty here.

However, with another offer Hilton is running, we can do even better.

Get 5,000 points per night for resort stays

Hilton is currently running another promotion for resort stays within the Americas where you can earn 5,000 points per night, up to a maximum of 6 nights and a maximum of 1 stay. This is a very good promotion in its own right, but the fact that you can stack it with the triple points promotion means you could really rake in the Honors points with one well-planned stay. This promotion *is* targeted, but make sure you check the link here. If you get an error message, you’ll have to assume it is unfortunately not for you.

Assuming you can find a resort that is going for only $120 per night (which is totally possible), you are looking at a return of 11,000 points per night, which are worth at least $55. So you’ll be getting nearly half the cost back. As an extreme example, you can book the Hilton Palm Springs for $89.50 per night (before taxes) next week, if you’re willing to pre-pay. A 6-night stay would yield 58,000 points for $634.86, which is a return of $290, over 45%, on your spending.

The cheaper the resort, the better the return with this deal. I found a few in the $90-$120 nightly range. Here is the list of participating resorts.

Note that this promotion does run through January 31, 2019, so even if you can’t stack it with the triple points promotion, you can still take advantage of it later.

Conclusion

So, if you already have plans or want to throw together a last minute resort vacation this month, you can really capitalize with Hilton. Even if you lay out some cash, you’ll be rewarded with points that are worth upwards of 50% of what you spend for your stay.
