As we’ve seen this week, American Express has made a number of changes to their flagship Platinum card, with mostly “meh” reception. One change, however, that’s getting little notice, is the change to the AMEX Platinum Priority Pass guest policy. If you’re not familiar with Priority Pass, it’s a network of lounges across the globe that aren’t specifically tied to one airline or one airline alliance. According to Priority Pass’ website, there are over 1,000 lounges that are part of their network.

So, what’s the change the Priority Pass guest policy? Per Doctor of Credit, as of February 21, American Express Platinum holders will now get two free guests, where as before, Platinum holders were charged $27 per guest, which means this new benefit could save you $54 per trip, if you ofter travel with a group (or your family)! And if you forget your card, make sure to have the Priority Pass number in your phone!

While this is a great addition, remember to take it in context of all of the other changes coming to the Platinum at the end of the month. If you think you’ll be traveling with a partner at least 4 times a year through an airport with a Priority Pass lounge, the new benefit pays for the increase in the annual fee. If you’re not a frequent traveler, and don’t often travel with a group of people, you might not get a lot out of this addition.

Overall, given all of the other “meh” benefits we saw in the revised Platinum announcement, it’s nice to see that a real positive change in the AMEX Platinum Priority Pass guest policy was also added, although as DoC points out, it’s strange that American Express didn’t highlight this in their unveiling of the card.

Will you be taking advantage of this new AMEX Platinum Priority Pass perk?
