Recently I went to Austin Texas for a conference and ended up breaking up my stay into two different hotels. First of all, I stayed one night at the Hyatt House Austin/Downtown. In this Hyatt House Austin/Downtown hotel review, we’ll take a look at the cost, location, food options, wifi and amenities and other things that might help you decide whether the Hyatt House Austin/Downtown is a good option for your next Austin Texas hotel.
Hyatt House Austin/Downtown Location
The Hyatt House Austin / Downtown is located at 901 Neches Street, Austin, Texas, United States, 78701.
It is, as the name suggests, in Downtown Austin, a few blocks north of the 6th Street district and a few blocks south and east from the Texas Capitol building. It is close to food and other downtown options.
Hyatt House Austin/Downtown hotel review – Cost
I booked the Hyatt House Austin/Downtown using a free night certificate. The hotel is a Category 3, which means that a standard room costs 12,000 World of Hyatt points. Cash rates for most nights that I looked at ranged from $100-$150 per night. You can also spend additional points or cash for an upgraded room or suite, though I would not do that, generally speaking, unless you needed the extra space, bedroom or kitchen.
Hyatt House Austin/Downtown review – Room
We booked a standard 1 King bedroom, and got a room on the 4th floor. The room was similar to other Hyatt Houses that I have stayed at before, with 345 square feet in an open layout. The bed and pillows were comfortable, and there were plenty of electrical outlets available.
There was a desk with a comfortable chair across the room. Again, there were plenty of outlets, both in the wall as well as on the light fixtures which is nice. One of the most frustrating things is staying in a hotel where there aren’t enough outlets so you have to unplug things in order to charge all of your various devices.
The bathroom was small but functional. The water pressure was excellent.
One minor problem was that it was almost impossible to not spill water all over the floor due to the way that the door and shower head were positioned.
Hyatt House Austin/Downtown WiFi and Amenities
WiFi is complimentary at the Hyatt House Austin/Downtown, and I found the speed to be okay.
Even though that speed test was slow, I didn’t have a problem accessing the Internet or streaming videos. Uploads were a bit slow.
In addition, there are several amenities at the Hyatt House Austin/Downtown that are worth mentioning. First of all, they have several meeting rooms and conference space on the first floor. Also on the first floor is a weight / exercise room that is larger than average.
There is a Hyatt House Austin Downtown pool outside. There’s an outdoor seating area with a grill
And next to that is a small and shallow outdoor pool.
There isn’t a separate business center like many hotels have – instead, there is a station in the lobby with two long tables, two computers and a printer. Again, plenty of electrical outlets if you want to work down here for awhile. Given that it’s in the middle of the lobby it won’t be very quiet though.
Hyatt House Austin/Downtown Review – Food
The Hyatt House Austin / Downtown offers complimentary breakfast for all guests. When I was speaking with the front desk clerk upon checkin, he said that it was only recently (Summer 2021) that they brought back hot breakfast. When I was there in September 2021, there were two hot dishes (eggs and sausage) along with muffins, cereal, fruit, bagels and juice.
I also enjoyed that each of those slots (that totally looks like a slot for trash) is labeled “Not a Trash Can”. Apparently they have had some problems with people putting trash through there though I TOTALLY can’t see why that would be! 🙂
There is a ton of seating in the lobby and plenty of room to space out.
They also have the “H Bar” which on the hotel website serves drinks and appetizers from 5-10pm in the evenings but that is currently closed “cuz COVID”
There is also the “H Market” that has various overpriced dinners, snacks and drinks. There is a microwave down here for your use though the rooms (at least the room I stayed in) also had a microwave.
All in all, my Hyatt House Austin/Downtown hotel review is that it was a pleasant stay. It is conveniently located and a good redemption on points or on cash.
