A reader named Nick posted something over in the free Points With a Crew miles and points Facebook group about this T-shirt that helps you communicate with people that don’t speak your language

Icon Speak video

Here’s a brief video of the Icon Speak T-shirt, which has 40 icons

They had me up until the very end when the guy picked up the random lady to go out to dinner by pointing to his food icon. Which led me to wonder a) what woman would go off with a stranger in an icon shirt and b) that seems like it would be a pretty boring conversation if neither of them spoke the other’s language 😀

Where to get the Icon Shirt

You can get the Icon Shirt and a variety of other accessories, including an icon phone case, over at the Icon Speak website.  I may receive a commission if you make a purchase.

I’m not sure if I’d ever wear one of these or not (I feel like they look pretty silly) but maybe the phone case?  There have definitely been times in my life when I’ve felt the pain of not being able to communicate.  Recently, while in Athens, I was trying to park my car near our airbnb apartment, these Greek construction workers came over and were trying to tell me something about how / where I parked.

(SEE ALSO: I may be the dumbest airbnb guest ever)

I couldn’t understand them and so I ended up just finding a different spot.  Of course I don’t know if 40 icons would have helped us have much of a conversation either… 🙂

In Peru, it went a little better as my gringo Spanish really helped us out while staying near Machu Picchu

Have you ever encountered difficulty communicating as you’ve traveled?  Would you wear an icon T-shirt?
