(UPDATE: I applied for the card offer I got in the mail – see what happened in part 2 of the story)

The introduction of the Chase 5/24 rule has put a damper on my personal ability to apply for new Chase cards.  The 5/24 rule says that if you’ve applied for 5 or more cards (from ANY bank) in the past 24 months, then you are likely to be denied from many Chase cards.  For instance, I couldn’t get the new Chase Sapphire Reserve card or the new Chase Ink Preferred card

Getting around the Chase 5/24 rule

There are a few Chase cards that you can still get even if you’re over 5/24.  For instance, I recently applied for the Chase Hyatt card and was approved (with the 40,000 point signup bonus).  I know that the IHG card is also not subject to 5/24

(SEE ALSO: Why you should get 2 IHG cards at the same time)

There are also reports that if you are a Chase Private Client or if you are pre-approved in branch that you can get around 5/24.

But now Chase is sending me enticing emails….

I got an email from Chase this morning, offering me to apply for the new Chase Ink Cash card.  I have the Ink Plus card, but not the Ink Cash or Ink Preferred

The Ink Cash card isn’t a premium card (so I wouldn’t be able to transfer URs to transfer partners (without having another premium card like the Ink Plus).  It does do the 5x at office supply stores (similar to the Ink Plus but unlike the Ink Preferred).  It has a limit of $25,000 at office supply stores (as compared to the $50,000 limit for the Ink Plus) and doesn’t have an annual fee

The 30,000 mile question…

The 30,000 mile question is whether or not I’ll be able to get the Ink Cash card even though I’m over 5/24.  I mean, I haven’t even been trying, but then they go and try and entice me with these emails?!?!

Maybe I’ll try to go in-branch and see if I’m preapproved.  Or maybe I’ll just give it a try.

Has anyone else that’s over 5/24 gotten one of these emails for a Chase card?  Leave your experiences in the comments
