Back in April, PWaC published two entries on American Express’ plans to add new Centurion Lounges in Denver, and Los Angeles.
On June 12, 2018, Amex made an official announcement about the plans for the fifth busiest airport in the world, and the second busiest airport in the United States – that’s none other than Los Angeles International Airport or LAX. For those who frequently travel and value the perks that come along with their American Express Platinum or Centurion cards,it’s about time for LAX to get Amex’s flagship lounge, The Centurion Lounge.

- The lounge will be located in the Tom Bradley International Terminal or TBIT (post-security)
- This is accessible to Terminals 4, 5, 6, 7,and 8.
- The lounge will span over 13,900 square feet
- Set to open in 2019

- Spa
- Family room
- Custom, visual wall installations
- Complimentary chef-crafted food menus
- Premium wines and specialty cocktails from top sommeliers and mixologists

- Power outlets, and private noise-buffering workstations
Where are the other Centurion Lounges today
According to the press release from American Express:
Current locations of The Centurion Lounge include New York’s LaGuardia Airport, Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, San Francisco International Airport, Miami International Airport, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Houston’s George Bush International Airport, Hong Kong International Airport and Philadelphia International Airport. In addition to The Centurion Lounge at LAX, American Express recently announced new locations coming to New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport and Denver International Airport in 2019.

It’s about time
My home airport is LAX, and when it comes to finding many choice flights, especially the international flights, it’s LAX for me. I admit, I’m not the biggest fan of the airport’s layout, and even more irritated knowing that there’s no quicker way to get from one terminal to another other than walking or brisk walking or taking a shuttle bus. You also have to know your way around LAX in order go from one terminal to another. It was just these past 4 years when I learned about the underground tunnels that connected some of the terminals. Here’s an entry from Tiffany of One Mile at a Time where she did a detailed analysis on how to get between terminals at LAX.

But over the years, I’ve seen improvements here and there, and might I add, much needed improvements are still on their way. Heck, in 2028, just 10 years from now, Los Angeles will welcome the world as host of the 2018 Olympics. Access to the very exclusive Centurion Lounge is an indication of many changes that we expect to see. It was also announced not too long ago of the approved plans to build the much-needed people mover. It’s about time. It’s about time for Los Angeles to get with the times. Some may say it’s too late. But it’s coming, changes at LAX are coming.

About the Centurion Lounge at LAX, I can see that it will benefit the international passengers more knowing that the lounge is located inside the international terminal. I once made the effort in trying a lounge at TBIT, while my flight was out of Terminal 7. I was about ready to stand in the security line at TBIT, and decided to make my way back to Terminal 7. One would really need to know how to maneuver around LAX in order to take advantage of this lounge. You need to allow for time to walk in between terminals or take a shuttle. I can see myself using this more for my future international flights.
It was just recently when my wife and I began using the perks of using the Centurion Lounge. We’ve used it so far in New York’s La Guardia Airport, Philadelphia International Airport, and in Dallas-Forth Worth. I’ve also used other Amex lounges, most recently in Mexico City, and a couple of years ago in Sydney. I never thought we’d get a massage in an airport lounge. My wife got her manicure and pedicure at The Centurion Club in Mexico City. Now that it’s coming to LAX which happens to be my home airport, I welcome the idea, and can’t wait to see it and use it in the future.
