Credit card signup bonuses remain an excellent way to get lots of miles and points, IF you understand what you’re doing.  If you’re just starting out, you might want to try my Beginner’s Guide, or ask questions on our flame free #beginners channel of the Points with a Crew miles and points Slack channel

It should go without saying that you should not sign up for a credit card just because some guy on the Internet said to!

Having said that, there are 2 pretty good credit card offers ending this week on August 31st (Wednesday)

Hilton 75000 point credit card offer

A few months ago, Citibank came out with a increased 75000 point offer for the Hilton HHonors card.  My wife and I both signed up for one back then, but shortly afterwards it returned to its “normal” value of 40,000 points.

In addition to the Hilton 75,000 points that you’ll get, you also will earn 6x points at Hilton hotels, 3x points at supermarkets, drugstores and gas stations, and 2x points anywhere else.  3x points sounds nice but Hilton points are not as valuable as other points, so this isn’t a card I’d put everyday spend on, though 75000 points is a lot and worth doing.

Citi Prestige with Admiral’s Club access

The Citi Prestige recently announced that it was removing several of the benefits of the card.  Most benefits remain for new applicants until July 2017, but the one that is going away sooner is the Admiral’s Club access.  Currently you can enter AA Admiral’s Clubs by just showing your Citi Prestige card and your boarding pass, but that benefit will be going away for anyone who applies September 1st or later

There is currently an offer for the Prestige for 40,000 ThankYou points after spending $4,000 in the first 3 months

Keep in mind that the “new” rules for Citibank signups went into effect on Sunday August 28th, so if you’ve opened or closed ANY card in the Hilton family (this Hilton HHonors card OR the Hilton Reserve card) you won’t be eligible for this 75000 Hilton HHonors card bonus.  And similarly, if you’ve opened or closed ANY card in the Citi ThankYou family (Prestige, Premier or Preferred) in the past 24 months, you won’t be eligible for a signup bonus on the Citi Prestige
