My wife and daughter recently took a trip to Salt Lake City for a mother / daughter date. Since we chose not to rent a car, they were constrained to staying in or near the downtown area. Since we had a free night certificate from the Marriott credit card (compare all hotel credit cards here), the Marriott Residence Inn Salt Lake City Downtown seemed like a perfect choice. The Residence Inn Salt Lake City Downtown is a category 5 hotel, which means it requires 30,000 points / night or of course the free night certificate that comes with the various Chase Marriott credit cards. Residence Inn Salt Lake City Downtown location
The Marriott Residence Inn Salt Lake City Downtown is located at 285 West Broadway (300 S), Salt Lake City, Utah 84101. It is at the corner of 300 West and 300 South, a few blocks southwest of Temple Square. It is across the street from Pioneer Park and very close to the Clark Planetarium and Vivint Smart Home Arena.
If you’re taking the TRAX light rail from the airport, you’ll want to get off at the Arena stop and walk 3 blocks south

The Salt Lake City downtown Residence Inn is a Category 5 hotel which as I said costs 30,000 points / night. Cash costs range from $119 to $179 based on dates. If you’re looking for something bigger than the regular Studio or 1 Bedroom suites, the Residence Inn Salt Lake City does have a few 2 Bedroom suites available.

Salt Lake City Downtown Residence Inn Marriott rooms
We stayed at a 1 Bedroom Suite, which is their basic suite and is 495 square feet. As I mentioned there are also smaller (Studio) and larger (2 Bedroom) suites available. Here are a few shots of the main room which is fairly spacious
As you can see it has a full kitchen including stovetop, refrigerator and dishwasher
And the bedroom and bathroom (the 2 Bedroom Suites have a bathroom in each bedroom)

Unlike some other Residence Inns, the Marriott Salt Lake City downtown version has all of the units in the same building. There is an outdoor pool and whirlpool, though it was closed when we were there.
There is also a fitness center inside as well as outdoor courts for basketball and other sports.

Residence Inns are one of the few Marriott brands that offer breakfast free to guests. There is a hot breakfast each day – and Residence Inns are one of the few hotels that offer dinner for free

The Residence Inn calls it the “Residence Inn Mix”, and it runs 3 days a week (Monday through Wednesday). The Residence Inn Salt Lake City Downtown offers
- Mondays – It’s On, featuring tasty sips and snacks.
- Tuesdays – grilling and chilling with cold beverages.
- Wednesdays – a taste of the local area with great food truck fare (guest purchases), restaurant pop-in tastings or dessert to provide a sweet finale to your day.
Tragically we were there on a Friday night so we did not get a chance to try any of those 🙂

There is actually a second building diagonally across the parking lot and further from the street from the main building.
My room in that second building had a door in the kitchen. Initially I thought it was a furnace but curiosity led me to discover a full sized washing machine and dryer just for me.
Ah interesting – we did not see that
I thought the Residence Inn SLC was a pleasant hotel to stay at. I had business in Orem but wanted to see the Mormon Temple Christmas decorations so my wife and I stayed there. Everything was adequate and they were pet friendly so we brought our dog.
Nothing to complain about but definitely not a destination.
Cat 5 is 25k points, not 30k
I was in the SLC area last week for business and although I didn’t stay at this SLC, I stayed at another just outside the city in West Jordan.

The property is virtually brand new and I was very pleased with the accommodations as well as the surrounding area.
