Last week one of my more popular posts was my 11 year old son’s travel bucket list (READ: My 11 year old son’s travel bucket list – #9 cracks me up).  In that post, I talked about how one of the reasons I started getting into travel hacking was to travel more as a family, and to teach my kids that the world is much bigger than their (relatively sheltered) small world.

I think that the concept of an actual “bucket list” of things you want to do someday later (before you kick the bucket) is not that great – I think of my travel bucket list as more of an travel “ideas” list.  In fact, in the past year, I’ve marked off the following 9 things on my travel bucket list

Here is my 9 year old daughter’s bucket list

travel-bucket-list-k

Here’s the list, fixed up for spelling 🙂

  1. Visit ______ in Utah (I redacted the names of the people she wants to visit on this one and #6)
  2. Hawaii
  3. Maine
  4. Paris
  5. London
  6. California
  7. Scotland
  8. Ireland
  9. Istanbul
  10. 4 corners
  11. Costa Rica
  12. Washington
  13. South Carolina
  14. Rhode Island
  15. New York City
  16. North Carolina
  17. Mississippi
  18. Louisiana
  19. Maryland
  20. Florida (Harry Potter World or Disney World)

Thankfully there appears to be some overlap between her bucket list and my son’s, and I was interested to see a couple of more “exotic” international destinations in addition to places that maybe aren’t on very many bucket lists (Mississippi anyone?)

Have you ever worked on a bucket list for one of your kids?  Let me know in the comments how it worked out!
