Norwegian has been slowly expanding their US footprint over the past few months. In December, they selected Stewart International Airport (SWF) as their first US base. Then, in February, they announced that Providence T.F Green Airport (PVD) has beat out Portsmouth, NH as their second base. Then we reported the routes to launch this summer from those bases, Even Bergen got some love from Norwegian, with a direct US link.
You’d think after all that, Norwegian might take a breather, but no, no time to waste! This morning, Norwegian announced long-haul expansion from London Gatwick (LGW) to two destinations in the US!
That’s right: Denver (which in NOT on the West Coast!) and Seattle (which definitely is)!
Route Details
Per Norwegian, here are the details:
- Service from Denver to London will launch on September 16, with twice-weekly flights on Tuesdays and Saturdays during the summer season. Service will increase to three times per week, adding Thursdays, beginning November 2 during the popular winter season.
- Service from Seattle to London will launch on September 17, with four flights per week on Mondays, Wednesday, Fridays and Sundays.
In terms of competition, Norwegian will face competition from British Airways on the London-Denver route and competition from both British Airways and Virgin Atlantic on the London-Seattle route.
Introductory Fares
As you can see from the image above, you can get fares from both London to Seattle and Denver for as little as $199 each way, or $398 roundtrip! Act fast, as tickets available as this price are limited!
Other Details
Remember that Norwegian will be flying these routes with its Boeing 787-9 aircraft, which seat 35 in Premium and 309 in Economy. Premium is in a 2-3-2 configuration with 46″ of pitch and Economy is in a 3-3-3 configuration with 31-32″ of pitch. Remember that Norwegian has an unbundled fare structure, so you’ll also need to pay for bag fees, seat assignments, and snacks on board, much like Spirit or Frontier.
Conclusion
It’s great to see new competition on these two routes, especially from a low cost carrier that will (hopefully) bring prices down on this route even further.

Hmmm… let’s see. A very comfortable Dreamliner (I’ve flown them and particularly like the better pressure/humidity), plus a route that I often fly (London-Seattle), plus some really good fares (both Economy and Premium) in comparison with BA and Virgin Atlantic. The LGW vs LHR is something to consider, but not really an issue. What’s not to like?
