Last week, I posed the question “Is it ever a good idea to stay at a Rodeway Inn?” It generated a lot of good comments and suggestions, so I figured it was only right that I should return back after my stay at the Rodeway Inn in Page, Arizona to report how it went.

One of the most telling comments was that especially on the lower-end hotels, there is a LOT of variety as far as whether a hotel is worth staying at or not.

I had booked the hotel, but I have previous experience with lower-end hotels not really honoring non-prepaid reservations

So, since I knew I’d be arriving at the Rodeway Inn Page Arizona later in the day, I figured I’d give them a call.  While driving in the snow down I-15 on my way through finishing up visiting every county in Utah, I called to just let them know I’d be there.

I ended up getting there about 11pm, and the front desk clerk let me know that I was the 2nd to last person to arrive, so it seems that the call was a wise move.  He asked me where I was going, and since I have prior experience with people not really understanding the fact that I’m trying to visit every county in the United States, I just told him I was planning a trip to Four Corners.  He mentioned that was about 3 hours and was fairly pushy about some of the local attractions (Page is right near Lake Powell). In fact, he was so pushy that I can only assume that he gets a commission on tour sales.

He gave me my key and I drove around to the back.  The courtyard was dark but had a pool (closed)

The room entrance for the room I was in was actually around the back of the buildings (which was kind of confusing), but I got in and checked things out.  You know you’re in a high-class joint when they have prices to discourage people from stealing everything that’s not locked down 😛

I’ll say the pillows were not the BEST I’ve ever had, but they were serviceable, especially since I had them all to myself.  I slept okay, but woke up early (about 5:30) and decided to just get on the road.  Unfortunately the breakfast didn’t start till 7.  I stopped by the front desk to check out, and the breakfast looked like it would have been decent.  In addition to the regular continental stuff, they had stuff for waffles as well as a hot try that probably was going to have eggs / sausage / bacon / etc.

So after staying there, I can say that it was definitely about what I would expect a $36.99 / night hotel to be, and I’d definitely stay there again.
