Starwood Pay Your Birth Year

Starwood Pay Your Birth Year rate

When you book a stay using “pay your birth year” rate, you pay regular rate for the first night, but your 2nd (and possibly the 3rd) night will be equal to the year you were born. You can find complete details of the special rate here. Below are the highlights:

  • Offer is valid at select Starwood properties in the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean.
  • Advance reservations are required and may be made online or by calling 877-782-0108 and mentioning Promotion Code NBR.
  • This offer is valid for stays of two or more nights. Rate discount applies only to the second night (and third night at select properties).
  • Some hotels will add $50 to $100 to your birth year rate. For example, if your birth year is 1970, then the rate for the 2nd and 3rd night would be $120 to $170 per night.
  • The rates for the second and third night of stay will be confirmed at check-in upon presentation of valid ID and confirmation of birth year.
  • The rate for reservations containing multiple rooms will vary based on the age of the oldest adult staying in each room.

Big savings especially in big cities

Starwood Birth Year Rate provides the most savings at hotels in expensive metropolitan cities. The only catch? Not many big cities are included in this special rate. Let’s look at three properties in Boston and Vancouver. The examples below assume birth year of 1965.

The Liberty, a Luxury Collection hotel in Boston, two nights June 30 – July 2

  • Birth Year rate:  $582 for first night, $165 for second night (this hotel added $100 to your birth year). tax 14.45%, or $108. The total for two nights is $855.
  • The cheapest nightly rate is $410 SPG member prepaid rate. Two-night total is $939 including fees and taxes.
  • The Birth Year Rate will save you $84 in total, not bad but not awesome either.

Sheraton Boston, three nights June 30 – July 3

  • Birth Year rate, first night is $399, second and third night is $65 per night, adding tax of 14.45%, three night total is $605.
  • $330 is the cheapest SPG member prepaid rate per night. Your three night total will be $1,134 after tax.
  • The Birth Year Rate will save you $529 in total, or 47%.
  • You can also redeem 16,000 per night.
  • Three nights will cost 48,000 points versus $605 cash, valuing your SPG points at 1.25 cents per point. I usually redeem my SPG points for more than 2 cents per point.

Sheraton Wall Center Vancouver, two nights July 2-4

  • Birth Year rate, first night is CAD 525, second night is CAD $65, adding tax 17.5%, two night total is CAD $693.
  • Cheapest nonrefundable nightly rate is CAD $499, and total for two nights is CAD $1,172.
