In addition to paid travel and credit card sign-up bonuses, another great way to earn points is through shopping portals. For those of you who may not know, shopping portals give you additional points for buying products through them. Currently both United Airlines and American Airlines shopping portals are offering bonus points on purchases.

Earn 500 bonus miles with United MileagePlus Shopping by 4/1/17
United’s “March Bonus” promotion is running for less than a week. Details can be find here, and terms of the promotion include:
- Promotion runs from 3/28/17 through 4/1/17 at 11:59:59 pm ET (the “Bonus Period”).
- Member will earn a one-time bonus of 500 MileagePlus® bonus award miles on qualifying purchases, in addition to the standard MileagePlus miles earned from shopping online through the MileagePlus® Shopping mall.
- Earn 500 miles for qualifying purchases of at least $200 or more cumulative qualifying purchases made during the Bonus Period
- “Qualifying purchases” do not include returns, cancellations, shipping and handling, taxes, gift card or other cash equivalent purchases, and certain products that are not eligible for bonus miles.
- Please see the MileagePlus® Shopping mall site for details on product eligibility and other restrictions.
- Please allow 8-10 weeks after the Bonus Period for bonus award miles to post to your MileagePlus® Shopping account.
Earn 1,500 bonus miles with American AAdvantage Shopping by 4/14/17
This seems to be a targeted offer. You can see if you are targeted by logging into your account here. I was not targeted because I earned a bonus during their last promotion earlier this year. However, my husband’s account was targeted because he did not participate in the last promotion (well, I chose not to shop through his account last time).
Terms of the targeted promotion include:
- The “3X Shop Again” bonus offer runs from 03/19/17 through 04/14/17 at 11:59:59 pm ET (the “Bonus Period”).
- Member will earn a one-time bonus of 1500 AAdvantage® miles when Member makes at least 3 individual “qualifying purchases” of $50 dollars or more during the Bonus Period.
- The bonus miles are in addition to the standard AAdvantage miles earned by shopping through the AAdvantage eShoppingSM mall.
- “Qualifying purchases” do not include returns, cancellations, shipping and handling, taxes, gift card or other cash equivalent purchases, and certain products identified by the individual merchant.
- Individual merchants may have additional terms and conditions on their store details page on the AAdvantage eShoppingSM mall site, which terms and conditions will apply to this bonus offer.
