A small plane crash was reported on Highway 101 near Agoura Hills, California early Tuesday afternoon. Photo and video of the aircraft show it engulfed in flame on the median and in the westbound lanes of the freeway. LA County Fire responded to the crash and put the fire out.

The plane is a vintage German WWII aircraft. Only the pilot “Rob” was on board. He was able to escape from the plane without injury after the crash and an eyewitness was even able to talk with him. Regarding the cause of the crash, he stated that the engine was failing and he had to pick a spot on the freeway without a large number of vehicles. Fortunately, his chosen “crash zone” was devoid of cars, and the aircraft itself was the only casualty.

It’s sad to see an historic plane lost like this, but we can be thankful that there was no loss of life.
